GUIDED TOUR: Exhibition Torlonia

10 Sep. 2024

  • Outdoors

On the occasion of a self-guided tour of the Musée du Louvre, which is closed to the public, we invite you to discover the special exhibition of marbles from the Torlonia collection.

The largest surviving private collection of Roman antique sculpture - assembled by the Torlonia princes throughout the 19th century in Rome - is now on show to the public for the first time since the mid-20th century. And it is to the Louvre that the Torlonia marbles are taking up residence for the first time outside Italy, in the restored setting of the summer apartments of Anne of Austria, home to the permanent collections of antique sculpture since the end of the 18th century and the birth of the Louvre Museum.

France's national collections lend themselves to a fruitful dialogue with the Torlonia marbles, questioning the origins of museums and the taste for Antiquity, a founding element of Western culture.
