Private tour: Backstage areas of the Salle Richelieu at the Comédie-Française

    Outdoors

    17h

Inaugurated in 1790 for the troupe of the Variétés amusantes, the Salle Richelieu has been the historic theatre of the Comédie-Française since 1799. The Salle Richelieu reflects the conflicts and passions that animated France at the end of the Enlightenment. Originally intended to be an opera house, the building — designed to preserve the harmony of the Palais-Royal — was commissioned by the Duke of Chartres and built by architect Victor Louis. Destroyed by fire in 1900, it was later rebuilt identically.
